A meeting of the Lt. Nathan Gann Chapter, S. A. R., was held at 7 PM Thursday, September15th, 2005 at the Golden Corral Restaurant in Lufkin, Texas. Members and guests arrived after 6 PM to eat prior to the meeting.

Members attending were: Fred Jacobs, Fred Preston, Woody Gann, Ed Shelton, Tom Gann, Jeff Corbett and J. Neal Naranjo.. Members then introduced their guests which  were Mary and Sam Griffin, Honora Jacobs, Betty Preston, Charlie Hamilton, Nancy Hamilton, Ben Pyle, Ellen Pyle, Stella Frances Naranjo, Jasper Lee and Vicki Gann.  In total there were 7 members and 11 guests. Jasper Lee and Sam Griffin are prospective members.

President Fred Preston called the meeting to order.Woody Gann gave the invocation. Fred Preston led the assemblage in the pledge to the U.S. Flag and the SAR Flag all standing and in unison.

Preston asked for a motion to accept the May minutes which were emailed and displayed on our web site.  Fred Jacobs made the motion and Ed Shelton seconded.  The motion carried. 

Treasurer, Jeff Corbett, reported that we had $352.82 in our checking account and our CD was worth $6,603.32.  The CD was renewed on 7/7/05 @ 3.2% interest..

Under Old Business, Preston presented J. Neal Naranjo with an SAR Rosette.    Neal was a charter member in this chapter but somewhere along the way his membership lapsed.  As of January 1, 2005 he is reinstated.

President Preston announced that there will be a dedication of grave marker for Henry Bailey Greenwood on October 22, 2005 at Stoneham Cemetery, Stoneham, TX.  Stoneham is west of Conroe on HWY 105.  We are also invited to attend the James Tull Chapter of the DAR, Division IV, Dogwood Regents Council, National Defense Luncheon on Nov. 5, 2005 at the Hyatt Regency Houston Airport.  Rear Admiral Peter L. Andrus will be the speaker.  Contact Fred for more information.

Under new business, President Preston reported that he had a list of 15 eligible Eagle Scouts.  Letters will be mailed to each along with a bulletin explaining the requirements for the Scholarship and Recognition program.  The winner will receive $100 again this year.  Entries should be in by the middle of December.   Apparently the list is not complete because Jeffrey Corbett's son was not included and he qualifies.  This will be checked out.

Had a brief discussion about the Poster Contest and will get into more detail at the November meeting.  Jeffrey Corbett said last year he contacted the Principal at Hudson but the word never got to the teacher(s).  Preston suggested this year he contact the teachers and let them tell the Principal.

At this time Preston introduced the speaker, Compatriot Dr. Jennings Neal Naranjo who talked about United States Money from Colonial Times to the Present.  Dr. Naranjo is recognized as one of the top 5 authorities (World Wide) on United States money.  The talk was very informative and interesting and kept everyone glued to their seats for an hour and 15 minutes.

Preston thanked Dr. Neal Naranjo, announced that the speaker at the November meeting will be Judge Paul White but subject unknown,  and then led the assemblage in the SAR Closing Admonition.   The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:30 PM..
