SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION
CHAPTER 28 LUFKIN, TEXAS

Minutes May  27,  2021

A joint meeting of the Lt. Nathan Gann Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution and the Milton Irish Chapter of the Sons of the Republic of Texas was held May 27, 2021 at the Golden Corral.  Members and guest assembled about 5:30 PM and enjoyed a Dutch Treat Dinner prior to the program.  Members present included:Tom Gann, President of both Chapters,  Fred Preston, Secretary SAR; Thomas Anderson, Sgt. at Arms SAR also SRT member;  Bill Sekel, Dist. 10 VP SAR; John Fluth, SRT, application for SAR; Horace Hawkins, SAR and Ernest Rowe, Secretary SRT.  Guests included  Dickie Dixon, Betty Preston, Jim and Linda Metteauer -SAR application, and David Moore - SAR Application.,  . There were 7 members and 5 guests present.  .

Tom Gann called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM.   Tom led the pledge to the American Flag and the Texas Flag.  There were no other reports and no new business or old business.  Tom was the speaker so he passed out approximaterly 16 pages (printed on one side) of the Bonner Family.   William Henry Bonner, Sr., 1808-1832,  came to Texas from Louisiana and camped near present day Chireno with his wife and 1 year old son, W. H. Bonner, Jr..  William  went for supplies  and was reportedly  murdered by Indians and Mexicans.   His wife, Nancy, and their infant son journeyed to the Old Stone Fort in Nacogdoches where they staid for approximately 5 years.  Nancy met and married  William Gordon Lang, a land surveyor, they had four daughters.  William Henry Bonner, Jr. 1830-1888,  met and married Malinda Blackburn , 1831, 1900 and they had 10 children.  Tom talked about each of the children.  The Bonner family owned approximately 20,000 acres north of HWY 94 and east of the Neches River., and still own most of it.  It was a very interesting story.
