The speaker was Bill Sekel.
Bill is a retired Marine and is currently President of the
Athens Chapter SAR and District 10 VP. Bill talked about the
origin of the United States Marine Corp. It was formed on
November 10th , 1775, the Continental Marine Corps by Samuel Nicholas.
I for one had no idea that Marines were present in the
battle for independence. Fully one fourth of
Washington's troops that crossed the Delaware to attack
Trenton N.J. in 1775 were Marines. Bill was obviously a very
proud Marine and gave a very enlightening talk that was well received.
Meeting was adjourned about 7:00 PM.
